Suseongmot Recreation Area

Suseong Recreation Area sits at the base of a ridge extending northwest from Yongjibong Peak (629m) in Beommul-dong, forming a natural landscape where gentle hills meet Suseongmot pond.

The centerpiece, Suseongmot, was built in 1925 under Japanese colonial rule as an artificial reservoir to supply agricultural water. It's substantial in scale — holding up to 700,000 tons of water, covering 218,000 square meters, with a shoreline stretching 2,020 meters.

Today it's a beloved waterside retreat, keeping a plentiful water level year-round. A walking path lined with benches and trees circles the pond, along with a dock for pleasure boats. Rides like a spaceship, pleasure boats, a Viking swing, bumper cars, and a carousel make it especially popular with families and children.

The fact that a place built as an irrigation reservoir has, over nearly a century, become one of the city's signature downtown retreats is the real story woven into this pond.
