Gyeongsang Gamyeong Park

Gyeongsang Gamyeong Park

📍 Daegu

A five-minute walk from Jungangno Station, Gyeongsang Gamyeong Park was created to preserve the site of the Gyeongsang Gamyeong government office, which stood here from the reign of King Seonjo of Joseon.

Gyeongsang Gamyeong was the government body that oversaw administration, military affairs, and judicial matters for the entire Gyeongsang region during the Joseon dynasty. From 1910 to 1965, this site held the Gyeongsangbuk-do provincial office; once the office relocated, the site became today's park in 1970.

The old Gyeongsang Gamyeong complex once included several buildings — Seonhwadang, Eunghyangdang, Jeseungdang, Eungsudang, and Jingcheonggak — but only two remain in today's park: Seonhwadang, the provincial governor's office (a Daegu Tangible Cultural Heritage), and Jingcheonggak, the residential quarters (also a Daegu Tangible Cultural Heritage).

Seeing these hanok buildings sitting quietly among downtown high-rises, it feels strange to think this spot once served as the administrative center governing the entire Gyeongsang region. Being close to the subway station makes it an easy stop for a quick visit.

📸 Best photo spotAn angle showing both Seonhwadang and Jingcheonggak halls works well. The contrast of a quiet hanok tucked among downtown buildings makes for an interesting shot too.
