Biseulsan Provincial Park

Biseulsan Provincial Park

📍 Daegu

Biseulsan takes its name from the shape of the rock at its summit, said to resemble a Taoist immortal playing a geomungo, a traditional Korean zither. In the Silla period it was known as Posan, and it has long been regarded as a sacred site said to be home to a mountain spirit called Jeongseong Daewang.

Listed among the Korea Forest Service's 100 great mountains of the nation, it's centered on the 1,084m Cheonwangbong peak, flanked by 1,058m Johwabong and 989m Gwangibong. Dense coniferous forest covers most of the mountain, and jagged rock formations and colorful foliage create a stunning scene all the way up to the upper ridgeline.

It's especially famous for its spring azalea fields, which turn the ridge crimson — drawing hikers from across the country each year during blooming season.

The mountain is also home to temples like Daegyeonsa, Yugasa, and Sojaesa, along with facilities such as the Biseulsan Recreation Forest, Hotel Azalea, an auto-camping ground, and a healing forest — making it a favorite destination for rest and recreation as well as hiking.

ℹ️ Travel infoOpen at all times (trails). Free (some facilities charge). Can get crowded during the spring azalea festival season.
📸 Best photo spotAn autumn angle showing both the ridge's jagged rock formations and colorful foliage is the best shot. In spring, try a low angle over the azalea fields to capture the whole ridge glowing pink.
