Todai-ji Temple
📍 NaraCompleted in 752, the Great Buddha Hall (Daibutsuden) is the world's largest surviving wooden structure, housing an overwhelming 15-meter bronze Great Buddha (Vairocana) statue. One of the hall's pillars has a hole the size of the Buddha's nostril, and legend says crawling through it grants wishes — a common sight is children lining up to try. From the temple entrance and along the approach path, deer wander freely and often approach visitors.
