Nara Park

A vast 6.6 million㎡ park encompassing Todai-ji, Kasuga Taisha, and Kofuku-ji, home to about 1,200 free-roaming deer designated as natural monuments. Long considered messengers of the gods, the deer aren't especially wary of people, and buying "shika senbei" deer crackers sold throughout the park draws them in eagerly. Sitting on the lawn surrounded by deer has become the very symbol of a trip to Nara.
