Yasuijinja Shrine

An ancient shrine dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, god of learning, and Sukunahikona-no-Kami. Legend says Michizane rested here in 901 while being exiled; in thanks for rice cakes offered by villagers, he gave them his family's plum-blossom crest — still used today on the label of Osaka's famous 'awa-okoshi' rice snack. The grounds hold a well he's said to have drunk from, and a memorial to samurai Sanada Yukimura, who died nearby in the Siege of Osaka.
