Wakaekagamijinja Shrine

This shrine holds roughly 2,000 tsubo of grounds, and while its founding date is unknown, ancient records like the Montoku Jitsuroku note that in 854 (first year of Saiko) 'the god Oikazuchi-akari of Kawachi Province was granted Junior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade' — evidence of considerable antiquity. Legend tells that when crops across the surrounding villages were nearly withered to death, priests recited the Great Prajnaparamita Sutra (a Higashiosaka City Important Cultural Property) in prayer before the deity, and on the 14th day clear water sprang from a pool behind the shrine, saving the crisis. Believed to bring blessings of 'wisdom,' 'health,' and 'safe childbirth,' it draws worshippers from far away.
