Over a thousand years ago, Mitsumasa — younger brother of Minamoto no Mitsunaka, ancestor of the Genji clan — was said to have suffered a serious illness, received a revelation from the healing Buddha Yakushi Nyorai, and fully recovered after resting at this hot spring. The inn's sukiya-style building creates a calm, refined atmosphere befitting a hot spring retreat. The water here is distinctive for its source-fed, unheated carbonated cold spring bath — somewhat chilly, but alternating with a heated bath eases fatigue well. It's said to help with neuralgia, joint pain, chronic digestive illness, poor circulation, and high blood pressure. The clear carbonated spring welling up in the inner courtyard is mineral-rich and said to benefit diabetes and liver disease. The inn also serves seasonal delicacies — spring wild greens, summer ayu fish, autumn matsutake mushrooms, and winter oyster hot pot.
