Shinodanomorikuzunohainarijinja Shrine

This shrine enshrines the fox of the legendary 'Kuzunoha Tale.' Over a thousand years ago, in the village of Abeno in Osaka, lived a man named Abe no Yasuna. When his powerful father was falsely accused and stripped of his lands, Yasuna prayed daily at Shinoda Myojin to restore the family's fortunes. One day he rescued a white fox fleeing hunters, and a woman calling herself Kuzunoha appeared. Yasuna and Kuzunoha had a son, Dojimaru — later the great onmyoji Abe no Seimei — but when the boy turned five, Kuzunoha's true identity as the white fox was revealed. Her poem left behind on the sliding door — 'If you miss me, come find me in Izumi's Shinoda forest, the resentful Kuzunoha' — is famously well known, and the tale draws many visitors praying for children.
