Shijonawatejinja Shrine

Founded in 1890, this shrine honors Kusunoki Masatsura and 24 clan warriors who fell fighting the Ashikaga forces at the Battle of Shijonawate during the Nanboku-cho period. Masatsura was the eldest son of Kusunoki Masashige, known as 'Great Kusunoki,' and is himself revered as 'Lesser Kusunoki,' a celebrated general embodying both loyalty and filial devotion. Mount Iimori to the shrine's east was once a strategic military point, now a serene, richly wooded hill; a bronze statue of Masatsura stands at its summit, and the grounds are lined with cherry and maple trees that add seasonal color. Annual events include the main festival on Masatsura's death anniversary, February 12, a spring festival on April 5, and an autumn festival on October 5.
