Sairinji Temple

Sairinji is said to have originated when the descendants of Wani, the Baekje scholar who naturalized in Japan during the late Ojin era, and his family the Fumi clan of Kawachi, dedicated part of their home as a temple hall during Emperor Kinmei's reign, in recognition of their contributions to cultural development. A massive stone on the grounds is the foundation stone for a five-story pagoda of a rare form in Buddhist archaeology — at roughly 7,500 kan (28 tons), it's among the largest such pagoda foundation stones known from the Asuka period.
