Nanshuji Temple
📍 OsakaFounded in 1557 by Miyoshi Nagayoshi, ruler of Sakai, to pray for his father's soul; this Rinzai Daitokuji-branch temple burned in the Siege of Osaka but was rebuilt on its current site in 1617 by the monk Takuan. Its Buddha hall (1653), main gate (1647), and Chinese-style gate from the early Edo period are all nationally designated Important Cultural Properties. Legend says tea masters Sen no Rikyu and Takeno Joo trained here, and Rikyu's favored two-tatami teahouse, Jisso-an, has been rebuilt.
