Kokuritsukokusaibijutsukan Museum of Art

The National Museum of Art, Osaka opened in 1977 within Expo Commemorative Park, aimed at collecting, preserving, and exhibiting mainly contemporary Japanese and international art alongside related research and programs. Due to aging facilities, it was rebuilt and relocated in 2004 to Nakanoshima, Osaka, as a fully underground museum. The building's exterior design evokes bamboo's vitality and the growth and development of contemporary art, designed by Argentine-born architect Cesar Pelli. It holds around 8,200 works and regularly hosts a wide variety of exhibitions.
