Legend holds this shrine was moved from Yamato and called the Great Shrine during Emperor Sujin's reign. Burned in the Onin War, it was rebuilt around its saved sacred mirror, and the elaborate 1610 main hall — a rare seven-bay style Momoyama-era structure — was once a nationally designated Important Cultural Property. Sadly destroyed by arson in 2008, it was meticulously restored using preserved records and over six months of research, reopening in 2011.
