Katanojinja Shrine
📍 OsakaFounded when Nomi no Sukune, considered sumo's mythical founder, received this land as a prize for winning a wrestling match and enshrined Susanoo-no-Mikoto here. Ravaged by fire during the Sengoku wars, it was revived when Toyotomi Hideyoshi designated it guardian of Osaka Castle's unlucky direction. Rebuilt in 1602 by Hideyori, the vermillion-lacquered, cypress-bark-roofed main hall is a nationally designated Important Cultural Property showcasing Momoyama architecture at its finest, with red and white plum blossoms coloring the grounds each spring.
