Heijo Palace Site

Heijo Palace Site

📍 Nara

The site of the imperial palace at Heijo-kyo, capital of Nara-period Japan from 710 to 784, and one of the properties making up the World Heritage "Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara." Today, the vividly restored Suzaku Gate and Daigokuden (Grand Audience Hall) stand tall over a vast open grassland, giving a real sense of the palace's original scale. The restoration exhibition hall introduces palace life through excavated artifacts like wooden tablets and roof tiles, and the expansive grounds also make a great open space for kids to run around.

📸 Best photo spotThe plaza in front of the reconstructed Daigokuden Hall conveys the vast scale of the old palace grounds.
