Abeojijinja Shrine

Abeojijinja Shrine

📍 Osaka

Ranked among the 'Ninety-Nine Kumano Princes' shrines during the Heian-era Kumano pilgrimage craze, it's said to have been founded under Emperor Nintoku. Records tell how, in 826, the monk Kukai performed rites here against illness on imperial order, and locals have long revered it for warding off disease. A subsidiary Abe no Seimei shrine sits within its grounds, alongside five camphor trees designated as protected trees by Osaka Prefecture.

📸 Best photo spotShoot straight through the torii gate to capture the shrine's signature red color and sense of depth.
