Zoheihakubutsukan Museum

The Mint Museum occupies a building constructed in 1911 as a thermal power plant, the only Meiji-era brick Western-style structure remaining on the Mint Bureau grounds. In 1969, to preserve the building, it was renovated while retaining its original exterior and opened as the 'Mint Museum,' displaying precious currency held by the bureau and introducing minting operations to the public. Starting in 2008, aiming to become 'a museum friendly to people, mindful of the environment, and worth showing off,' it underwent a major renovation introducing the latest exhibition and facility techniques, reopening renewed in April 2009.
