Yodogawajinja Shrine

The exact date of founding is unknown. It enshrines fifteen deities including Amaterasu Omikami and Hachiman Okami, honoring renowned gods from across Japan. Among its ujiko (local shrine parishioners) was the famed haiku poet Yosa Buson, who grew up familiar with the shrine's festivals from childhood, finding them his greatest joy — an environment believed to have shaped and refined his poetic sensibility. The summer festival held in July, known as a summer tradition of Miyakojima Ward, features flutes, gongs, and drums, with joyful children's processions, pillow-drum performances, and danjiri float parades.
