Masakibijutsukan Museum of Art

A 15-minute walk from Nankai Main Line's Tadaoka Station, this museum houses the ink-painting-centered East Asian art collection amassed over decades by local magnate Masaki Takayuki. Its holdings number 1,300 pieces, including 3 National Treasures and 13 Important Cultural Properties, with around 300 paintings — mostly Kamakura and Muromachi-era ink works — forming an invaluable record of Japanese medieval painting history. Both the main and new buildings, designed by Masaki himself, are wrapped in the serene atmosphere fitting for viewing ink paintings. Exhibitions run twice yearly, spring and autumn, centered on Zen-culture relics like ink paintings and calligraphy, paired with harmonizing craftwork, sculpture, and tea utensils in fresh themed displays each time.
