Kurohimeyamakofun

📍 Osaka

Kurohimeyama Kofun is a keyhole-shaped burial mound 114m long, with a front section 64m wide and 11m high. Believed to have been built in the middle Kofun period, it was also used as a fortress in medieval times. A terrace surrounds the mound's moat — a design feature meant to make the tomb look beautiful — offering a glimpse into ancient Japanese aesthetic sensibilities. The on-site guidance facility displays armor, helmets, and haniwa clay figures excavated during archaeological surveys of the mound.
