Hyotanyamainarijinja Shrine

Its shrine hall sits atop the twin-mound, gourd-shaped 'Hyotanyama Kofun,' making it one of Japan's three great Inari shrines, dedicated to Ukemochi-no-Okami, guardian of harvests and everyday life. It's uniquely famous nationwide as the head shrine of 'tsujiura' street-corner fortune-telling. Legend traces its founding to 1583, when Toyotomi Hideyoshi designated this auspicious spot as a guardian shrine while building Osaka Castle.
