Hinejinja Shrine

Head shrine of the Hineno, Kaminogo, and Nagataki districts, with roots traceable to Heian-era records. It enshrines the parent deities of Emperor Jimmu and ranks among Izumi Province's five major shrines. Burned down in 1576 during Hideyoshi's attack on Negoroji, it was rebuilt in 1602 by Hideyori. Every May, the distinctive Makura Festival sees participants carry colorfully decorated 'pillow banners' atop 5-meter bamboo poles while singing through a parade.
