A local museum holding about 2,000 artifacts excavated from the Geochang area — this is Geochang Museum.
It first opened in May 1988 as the 'Geochang Relics Exhibition Hall' and was upgraded to its current name, Geochang Museum, in 1993. The exhibition halls were renovated in 2009, giving the museum its present-day form.
The collection spans roughly 2,000 pieces — earthenware, ceramics, stoneware, bronzeware, maps, and folk items — and its standout pieces include a hand-colored Daedongyeojido map and materials related to the Dunmari mural tomb. Gaya-era pottery, Goryeo ceramics, and Joseon white porcelain are also on display by era, giving visitors a compact overview of the region's history in one place.
Since most of the exhibits were actually excavated or passed down within the Geochang area itself, the museum has a distinctly local character you won't find at bigger city museums.
Geochang isn't only about old artifacts — it's also the hometown of someone who made a name for himself worldwide today. Jang Seong-rak, the artist behind the webtoon 'Solo Leveling' (with over 14.3 billion cumulative global views), was born here in Geochang. Since his passing in 2022, Geochang County has continued to spotlight his story as part of promoting the region through webtoons.
Honestly, though, it's a modest regional museum, so if you're expecting the scale of a major national museum, it may feel fairly small.
An hour is more than enough time to see everything, which makes it easy to pair with nearby spots like Suseungdae or Geochang Changpowon Garden.
Entry is free, and it's located in downtown Geochang, within walking distance of the intercity bus terminal.
