Geochang Changpowon Garden

A large waterside ecological park stretching along the Wicheon River — this is Geochang Changpowon Garden.

Covering about 420,000 square meters — roughly 66 soccer fields — it's a substantial piece of parkland, designated South Gyeongsang Province's first officially recognized regional garden.

As the name suggests, it's built around irises ('changpo' in Korean), and each May the riverbank fills with a spectacular sea of purple blooms. Inside, a separately run tropical botanical garden means there's something to see regardless of the season or weather.

Walking paths, lawns, and riverside viewpoints are spread across the wide grounds, making it a pleasant place for an unhurried walk along the river even outside the flowering season.

Honestly, though, the grounds are so large that seeing everything takes real time and stamina, and outside of May, don't expect much in the way of flowers.

If flowers are your main goal, aim for early-to-mid May; at other times, plan your visit around the tropical garden and a riverside walk instead.

Entry to the park is free (the tropical garden may charge separately). It's located in Namsang-myeon, and having a car makes getting there much easier.
