Geochang Hwangsan-ri Sin Clan House

Geochang Hwangsan-ri Sin Clan House

📍 Geochang

Geochang Hwangsan-ri Sin Clan House is a modern-era house built in 1927 by Sin Do-seong, also known as Wonhak Gogo.

Since the scholar Sin Gwon settled in this village in 1501, the 7th year of King Yeonsangun's reign, the village grew into a clan village of the Geochang Sin family, and this house sits right at its center.

The house's owner at the time is said to have been a major landowner, and both the men's and women's quarters were built with a double-layered hip-and-gable roof rather than the single-layer style typical of Gyeongnam-area houses — a clear display of the owner's wealth and authority.

It's a place where you can see, in physical form, how a Joseon-era clan village carried its identity into the modern era, accumulating wealth and expressing it through architecture.

📸 Best photo spotA front angle that conveys the weight of the double hip-and-gable roof is recommended. Knowing this was the house of a major modern-era landowner changes how you see its scale.
