Tongdosa Seongbo Museum

Tongdosa Seongbo Museum spans one basement level and three floors above ground, housing exhibition space, a curatorial research office, four artifact storage vaults, an archive room, a conservation office, and a cultural center.

Its holdings total around 31,000 pieces, made up mostly of relics handed down within the temple itself, donations from Buddhist practitioners, and a smaller number of acquired items. The exhibition halls are organized into a Buddhist painting gallery, a Tongdosa history gallery, a donated-relics gallery, and a special-exhibition gallery.

Beyond its permanent displays, the museum runs academic research, special exhibitions, publishes research reports and exhibition catalogs, holds seminars, operates a "museum university," and offers various cultural lecture programs — functioning less like a simple storehouse and more like a living center for the study of Buddhist culture.

Visiting alongside Tongdosa's main temple grounds deepens the experience, letting you see how centuries of architecture and faith at the temple crystallized into the artifacts on display here.

Open 09:30-17:00 in summer (last entry 16:30) and 09:30-16:30 in winter (last entry 16:00), closed Mondays and the Lunar New Year/Chuseok holidays. Free admission.
