Tomb of King Talhae

Tomb of King Talhae

📍 Gyeongju

In Dongcheon-dong, Gyeongju, surrounded by pine forest, stands the tomb of King Talhae (r. 57-80), Silla's 4th monarch.

The tomb's form itself is unremarkable, but it holds significance as an early Silla royal tomb — and specifically as the first tomb of a king from the Seok clan. It's a round earthen mound 4.5m high and 14.3m across, with no notable surrounding structures; based on its outward appearance, it's believed to be a stone-chamber tomb with a horizontal entrance passage. This one modest mound stands as physical evidence of early Silla history, when the throne passed between the Park, Seok, and Kim clans.
