Songdaemal Lighthouse stands north of Gampo Port in Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do.
It was originally built as an unmanned lighthouse to protect maritime safety in the waters off Gampo, where reefs stretching far out from the shore made accidents involving small vessels common. It was later upgraded to a manned lighthouse, but has since been retired and is no longer in use. Standing beside it instead is a new five-story lighthouse, newly built in the shape of the stone pagoda at Gameunsa Temple Site — a symbol of Gampo-eup, Gyeongju. The sight of the retired old lighthouse standing alongside the new one watching over it creates a scene unique to this spot.
