Sarabong Peak

Sarabong Peak

📍 Jeju

Sarabong is an oreum touching the coastline just east of Jeju Port. Its name means "fine silk," and it's famous as the site of "Sabong Nakjo," one of Jeju's Ten Scenic Views (Yeongju Sipgyeong) — a title referring specifically to the sunset seen from this peak.

"Sabong Nakjo" refers to the red glow of sunset as seen from Sarabong, and climbing to the summit lets you watch the sea turn crimson right before your eyes. Even by day, the summit offers an unobstructed view — the blue sea to the north, the grand Mt. Halla to the south, and downtown Jeju spreading out below.

The oreum takes the form of a parasitic volcanic cone with a horseshoe-shaped crater opening to the northwest, made up of reddish volcanic scoria and covered throughout with pine trees.

Being close to downtown Jeju and an easy climb, it's a perfect spot to visit for a quick sunset outing whenever you have a bit of spare time.

📸 Best photo spotSunset time, when "Sabong Nakjo" turns the sea red, is this oreum's real charm. A panoramic angle from the summit capturing both the sea to the north and Mt. Halla to the south is recommended.
