Nasan Seowon

Nasan Seowon

📍 Gyeongju

Nasan Seowon, located in the main village of Nasan-ri, Yangnam-myeon, Gyeongju, honors Kim Mun-gi, pen name Baekchon, an early-Joseon scholar-official, and is also known as Nasansa.

Descendants of Kim Mun-gi and of Kim Je-hak, who first settled Nasan-ri, hold memorial rites here every year. The academy is notable as the southernmost seowon in Gyeongju, and the only one established in a coastal area. Walking from the village hall at the entrance of Nasan-ri to the academy, visitors can feel the atmosphere of the Andong Jang clan's yangban village along the way. Nasan Seowon sits on about 800 pyeong (roughly 2,645㎡) of land, with a shrine hall of three bays, a lecture hall of four bays, and both east and west dormitory wings — a fairly substantial complex.
