Tomb of King Naemul

Tomb of King Naemul, in the Inwang-dong tomb cluster near Gyeongju Hyanggyo, is the tomb of King Naemul (r. 356-402), Silla's 17th monarch, believed to have been built in 401.

The mound is 22m across at its base and 5.3m high, with the corner of a natural stone exposed around its base — suggesting it once had a separate retaining stone structure like the Tomb of King Muyeol. The Samguk Sagi (History of the Three Kingdoms) has no record of King Naemul's burial site, but the Samguk Yusa (Memorabilia of the Three Kingdoms) records it as being southwest of Cheomseongdae — a description matching the tomb's current location. That the historical record and physical site align so precisely is what makes this tomb genuinely interesting.
