Yoshidajinja Shrine

Yoshidajinja Shrine

📍 Kyoto

Yoshida Shrine began at the foot of Mount Yoshida as a guardian shrine for the new capital of Heian-kyo. Within the grounds are shrines to the local land deity and, more unusually, to the gods of confectionery and of cooking. The most distinctive of all is the Saijosho Daigengu, where the deities of every shrine in Japan are enshrined together — visit here, it is said, and you have the merit of having visited them all. The Setsubun festival in February draws several hundred thousand people from across the country every year.

📸 Best photo spotShoot straight through the torii gate to capture the shrine's signature red color and sense of depth.
