Namikawayasuyukishippokinenkan Memorial Museum

This museum is the preserved home of Namikawa Yasuyuki (1845–1927), the cloisonné master who worked through the Meiji and Taisho eras and was named an Imperial Household Artist. On display are the enamel pieces he collected award after award for at exhibitions at home and abroad — the ones he never let go of — alongside the preparatory drawings and tools he made them with. The building is a Kyoto machiya: front house, main house, old workshop and old kiln site. The garden is the work of Ogawa Jihei VII and is said to be the first private garden ever fed by water drawn from the Lake Biwa Canal. House and garden were built together in 1894, a single space for living and working.
