Shuzanjoshi Castle

Shuzan Castle was built in 1579 by Akechi Mitsuhide. The area had been called Nawano, but Mitsuhide is said to have renamed it Shuzan, likening himself to King Wu of the Zhou dynasty. Only fifteen features survive today — the stone walls of the main enclosure, the smiths' bailey, the riding ground and others. At Jigenji, at the foot of the hill, a wooden figure of Mitsuhide is enshrined.
