Shibagahara Kofun dates from the transition between the Yayoi and Kofun periods, the first half of the 3rd century to the beginning of the 4th, and both the mound itself and what came out of it suggest it may be among the oldest in Japan. A bronze bracelet of a rarely found type was recovered here intact, which drew the attention of archaeology enthusiasts nationwide. The finds are displayed at the Joyo City Museum of History and Folklore, and the mound has been restored so the site can be enjoyed as a historic park.
