Sarumarujinja Shrine

This shrine enshrines Sarumaru Dayu, who wrote the famous verse about hearing a deer belling as it treads through fallen maple leaves deep in the mountains — and how that is when autumn turns sad. He is counted among the Thirty-six Immortal Poets, yet who he actually was remains a mystery. This district is said to be where he lived in seclusion in his later years. The shrine is also strongly venerated for removing lumps and growths.
