Rozanji Temple

Rozanji Temple

📍 Kyoto

The main hall of Rozanji was moved here from part of the retired emperor's palace, and the temple has long-standing ties to the imperial house. It is also said to stand on the site of the residence of Murasaki Shikibu, author of The Tale of Genji, and in 1965 a Genji garden was laid out in her memory. The moss garden holds its damp, courtly atmosphere well. From mid-June into September, the Chinese bellflowers are lovely.

📸 Best photo spotVisit early morning or late afternoon when it's less crowded, for a clearer shot of the gate and grounds.
