Omidokannonji Temple

Omidokannonji Temple

📍 Kyoto

Omido Kannonji is an old temple said to have been founded in the reign of Emperor Tenmu, and its principal image is an eleven-headed Kannon — one of the few designated National Treasures. The grounds are known for cherry blossom, which together with the floating island in the garden gives the place the full atmosphere of an ancient temple. A dharma talk by the head priest can be arranged in advance.

📸 Best photo spotVisit early morning or late afternoon when it's less crowded, for a clearer shot of the gate and grounds.
