Okadakamojinja Shrine

Okada Kamo Shrine enshrines the ancestral deity of the Kamo clan and is said to date to the reign of Emperor Sujin. It is the original shrine from which Kyoto's Shimogamo Shrine derives, and appears in the Engishiki register. The enshrined deity, Kamo Taketsunumi, is said to take the form of the Yatagarasu, the three-legged crow — the same crow the Japan Football Association uses as its emblem. The main hall is a kasuga-zukuri structure relocated from Kasuga Taisha in the Edo period. Several such relocated halls survive in Kizugawa, but most have been heavily altered; this one retains its original character, and is a designated prefectural cultural property. A Tenmangu stands in the grounds too, so red and white plum, then cherry, then crape myrtle come in turn.
