Mibudera Temple
📍 KyotoMibudera is a Risshu temple founded in 991 with Enmei Jizo as its principal image, long venerated by ordinary people as a temple of protection and good fortune. A nursery and a home for the elderly stand within the grounds, which gives it an unpretentious, lived-in feel — but the annual Setsubun rites and the Mibu kyogen, an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property, draw large crowds. The Shinsengumi had their barracks near here in the last years of the shogunate, and the Mibuzuka mound in the grounds holds the graves of eleven Shinsengumi members along with a bust of Kondo Isami.
