Kuwayamajinja Shrine
📍 KyotoKuwayama Shrine was founded in 709 and is also known as Kuwayama Daimyojin or Yada Shrine. The story goes that this whole area was once a muddy lake, until the enshrined deity Onamuchi cut open the Ukeda gorge with a hoe to drain the water away, turning the basin into farmland and giving the people a harvest. Grateful residents enshrined him as Kuwayama Daimyojin, and that is where the shrine began. It is also known locally for its autumn maples.
