Jojakkoji Temple

Jojakkoji Temple

📍 Kyoto

Jojakkoji stands on the slope of Mount Ogura, and takes its name from the sense that its stillness and clarity are like wandering in the Pure Land of Tranquil Light itself. Through the thatched Nio gate and up the stone steps is the main hall, and behind it a well-proportioned pagoda; the view of Sagano from there is superb. Once inside the gate the whole hillside is maple and old cherry, which makes both the fresh green of spring and the autumn colour here among the finest in Kyoto.

📸 Best photo spotVisit early morning or late afternoon when it's less crowded, for a clearer shot of the gate and grounds.
