Hakusanjinja Shrine

Hakusan Shrine holds the oldest shrine building in the city, and is known for the kagura performed on the first Sunday of each month. The main hall is an Important Cultural Property, said to date from the Eikyo era; Muromachi-period construction shows in details like the frog-leg struts and carved nose-pieces of the front eaves. The stone lantern standing before it is designated an Important Art Object and carries an inscription dated 1433 — it is said to have been moved here from the grounds of Hounji, a temple abandoned around that time.
