Daidoji Temple

📍 Kyoto

The Daidoji district of Tachikawa holds the temple that gave the area its name, the town-designated Daido Shrine, and the burial mound of the priest Shinzei, a site from the Genpei War; it is also the old trailhead for Mount Jubu, the sacred peak of southern Yamashiro. In November the drying racks known as kakiya go up in rows for making korogaki persimmons, and the village and its fields together produce a landscape that feels like everyone's idea of home.

📸 Best photo spotVisit early morning or late afternoon when it's less crowded, for a clearer shot of the gate and grounds.
