Bairinji Temple

📍 Kyoto

Bairinji has Shaka Nyorai as its principal image and is a Rinzai Zen temple founded in the Muromachi period by the priest Kakuin Shinnyo. Its treasure is a dotaku bell excavated from the summit of Mount Bikuni — a fine example 107 centimetres high, its surface incised with the crossed-band pattern. It dates from the late Yayoi period and is a national Important Cultural Property. Ordinary visitors are allowed to strike the temple bell here.

📸 Best photo spotVisit early morning or late afternoon when it's less crowded, for a clearer shot of the gate and grounds.
