Asahibiruooyamazakisansobijutsukan Museum of Art

📍 Kyoto

This museum comprises a main building from the Taisho to early Showa period, an underground wing designed by Tadao Ando called the Jewel Box in the Earth, and a hillside wing called the Box of Dreams. The main building shows ceramics and craft that came out of the mingei movement, by makers such as Kawai Kanjiro and Bernard Leach; the underground wing holds paintings, including Monet's Water Lilies. Building, garden and collection each reward attention here, which is what makes the visit.

📸 Best photo spotPlease avoid flash photography indoors to protect the exhibits — outdoor exhibit areas, if any, are easier to shoot.
