Tomb of King Jima

Tomb of King Jima belongs to King Jima (r. 112-134), Silla's 6th monarch, born the son of the 5th monarch, King Pasa. Over his 23-year reign, he defended the kingdom against incursions from Gaya, Japanese raiders, and the Malgal people.

During his reign, Silla maintained friendly relations with Baekje, but competed with Gaya for dominance over the lower Nakdong River region. When Japanese raiders invaded the eastern frontier, he negotiated a peace settlement; when the Malgal invaded from the north, he repelled them with Baekje's help. This tomb carries the footprint of a king who navigated the complex web of early Silla's foreign relations.
