Thirteen-Story Pagoda of Jeonghyesa Temple Site

The Thirteen-Story Pagoda of Jeonghyesa Temple Site stands at the former site of Jeonghyesa Temple in Gyeongju, and represents a uniquely shaped stone pagoda from the Unified Silla period.

Thirteen stories of pagoda body rise from a single earthen platform — a form with no comparable example elsewhere from Unified Silla. While the first-story body is massive, both the body and roof stones shrink abruptly from the second story onward, so the upper stories look almost like an ornamental finial added atop a single-story pagoda. This unusual proportion — a small, thirteen-tiered structure rising from a disproportionately large first story — gives the pagoda a character unlike any other Silla stone pagoda. It's close to Oksan Seowon, making it easy to visit both together.
