Tomb of King Hyogong

Tomb of King Hyogong belongs to King Hyogong (r. 897-912), Silla's 52nd monarch.

It's a round earthen mound 5m high and 21.2m across. A few stones survive at its base, believed to be remnants of a retaining-stone structure similar to that at the Tomb of King Muyeol; otherwise, the tomb is remarkably simple, with no other markers. According to the Samguk Sagi, when the king died in 912, he was given the posthumous title "Hyogong" and buried near a temple called Sajasa. This tomb carries a particular historical weight as the resting place of a king who ruled during the chaotic final decades of Silla, as royal authority was rapidly unraveling.
